History of VHM

VHM was founded in 1978, based on the experience gained in the field of 2 stroke engine tuning by mr. Ad van Haandel. His knowledge comes from his own personal experiences and observations, as himself often tested the results of his work as a karting driver on the tracks.

His desire to create the best high quality performance products for 2 stroke engines, has made VHM Special Racing Products famous throughout the world.

In the early ‘90 the first VHM carburettor was developed and used in karting and motocross engines.

Jean-Pierre Wouters became the champion in the go-kart series with the VHM carburettor. Because of this success a special go-kart championship was planned. Unfortunately the VHM carburettor was not approved by the official karting federation.

VHM started officially as a company. The 3 famous characters VHM stands for "Van Haandel Motorparts". The parent company "van Haandel Metaal" has moved to its new building. Therefore VHM moved into the old building of "van Haandel Metaal".

Working very close with various top teams and the search for more engine performance, in 1997 the famous gold coloured cylinder head with exchangeable inserts where manufactured for road race and motocross engines.

Many private and top teams are using the VHM cylinder head resulting in many victories and world championship in motocross, road race and karting. Masao Azuma from Playlife-Liegeois Team takes the 3d place after winning 5 GP in the 125cc Grand Prix motorcycle racing championship using the VHM cylinder head.

In 2000 our first World Champion using VHM cylinder head, Grant Langston become the World champion 125cc motocross.

During 2003 VHM starts to distribute various products from other brands. In the beginning V-Force reed valves. Later on Hinson clutch components, Afam sprockets and chains were added.

With years of experience in crankshafts development and design, VHM started with modifying OEM crankshafts. The modified crankshafts has a huge effect on the behaviour and handling of the engine. This will result in faster lap times, whether it’s for karting, motocross or road race.

We have developed carburettors for the 125cc "long life" TAG direct drive kart engines in the KF2 and KF3 Class. The VHM J3 and S2 carburettors were officially homologated and approved by the CIK-FIA.

Vertex pistons and Suterclutch are added in the product range.
